‘A blow’. “Blow” 在這裡作名詞，“a blow” 的意思是 “一記重擊”，而在日常生活中，它其實還可以用來指 “一件讓人失望透頂的事情，一次打擊”。Beth，最近有沒有什麼事情對你來說是 “a blow”？

Beth
Well, I’ve been trying to buy a new car. I saw one I really liked, and I was just about to buy it, but I’ve just found out that it sold yesterday. It’s a bit of a blow.

Feifei
It does sound like a blow. 這確實很讓人失望。A similar thing happened to me when I was looking for a flat. I made an offer, but someone made a higher offer, so I missed out.

Beth
What a blow! This word is especially used when something hasn’t gone the way you imagined and has ruined your plans.

Feifei
是的，當事情沒有按預期進行，破壞瞭你的計劃，導致事情被耽擱、計劃被取消或以失敗告終，這種情況下 “a blow” 尤其適用。Did you find your phone by the way? I heard you lost it.

We’d made a lunch reservation for 1pm, so it was a blow when the train was delayed until 1.30.
