‘Smart casual’ is similar to ‘business casual’, but there is even more flexibility with what you can wear. It is a combination of formal and casual clothing. It can be used in both work and social settings. Let’s hear some examples.
Examples
I’m going to wear business formal for the interview at the law firm. I just need to find my dark suit and tie.

Our office has a business casual dress code, so I usually wear a blouse and smart trousers.

The more formal of the two is ‘white tie’, and it’s associated with high society events such as Royal events, state dinners or balls. Men wear a black tailcoat and a white waistcoat, shirt and tie. Women wear elegant, floor-length gowns.

Wow! All of that sounds very fancy. Let’s introduce some more casual styles now. The verb ‘dress down’ means to wear more relaxed clothes than usual. This can also be used as a compound adjective, for example, an office might encourage ‘dress-down Fridays’ where you can dress more comfortably on Fridays.

And, we have the most casual of all: athleisure. “Athleisure（運動休閑）” 是常見的最休閑的著裝方式，它也是一個非常現代的說法，由 “athlete（運動員）” 和 “leisure（休閑）” 兩個單詞混合而成。“Athleisure” 指的是 “不但能穿著進行體育活動還能適用於日常生活的舒適穿搭”。讓我們來聽一組例句。
Examples
I wear suits all week at the office, so I usually dress down at the weekends. I just wear something comfy.

Ooh that’s a tough one! Well, if we’re talking about work, I wear smart casual in the office, but when I work from home, I like wearing athleisure because it’s comfy.
