文章開頭我們提過，和「weekend」搭配的介係詞可以有很多種，包含「at the weekend」、「on the weekend」、「over the weekend」、「on weekends」、「this / last weekend」，以下就把它們之間的差別做了一個整理比較。

at the weekend和on the weekend的差異
「at the weekend」和「on the weekend」所表達的「在週末」，都是指特定週末。
如果明確知道是在說這週末或上個週末，也可以用「this / last weekend」來代替。

「at the weekend」（英式英文）和「on the weekend」（美式英文）在意思上都完全一樣，只有差在母語使用者的習慣差別。所以使用上，只要視背景和對話對象挑選出適合的用法即可。
另外，如果是以「on (the) weekends」，這種複數形態來表現，則用於闡述一般週末的固定習慣或活動。舉例來說，「I like to go hiking on (the) weekends」，中文就是「我平常週末都喜歡去爬山」的意思。
至於中間有沒有寫「the」其實沒什麼差別，所以「on the weekends」和「on weekends」意思上都完全一樣。

「over the weekend」也是指「在（特定）週末」，所以和「at the weekend」、「on the weekend」在用法上都很類似。
不過它和表示固定週末習慣的「on (the) weekends」不太一樣，「over the weekend」不會使用複數形，因為它指的是單一的特定週末。
另外，原則上「over the weekend」指的都是已經結束的週末、或是現在正在過的週末，並不會用於描述未來。
