（１）I ate all of the cakes.
（２）I ate the whole cake.
（３）I ate the entire cake.
(1) I ate all of the cakes 是表示吃了多個蛋糕的「全部」。請想像一下桌上放著三個蛋糕的畫面。也就是吃了三個蛋糕的狀態！
(2)I ate the whole cake. 則代表吃了一顆蛋糕的「全部」。生日買的圓形蛋糕被稱為「整個蛋糕」。是吃掉整個蛋糕的狀態！ 「whole」是將焦點著重在「未分割」。
(3)I ate the entire cake.跟 (2) I ate the whole cake.幾乎是一樣的意思。但它是一個比「whole」更正式的詞。另外，「entire」更著重於「沒有遺漏任何東西」。

「All」代表「全部」。英英字典對其定義如下：
every one (of), or the complete amount or number (of), or the whole (of)
「All」是用於將多個事物組合在一起。主要用法有四種。
1.all＋名詞的複數形
「All」後面接續名詞，是用作形容詞，代表「全部的～」。是表達一般事物或普遍事實。
All students have to take the test.
所有學生都必須參加考試。
All men are mortal.
所有人類都注定會死亡。
All people have human rights.
每個人都有人權。
2.all＋the＋名詞的複數形
我們也可以將「All」放在所有格（the/these/those等）之前，以建立「all＋the＋名詞的複數形」的詞序。
All the students have to wear the school uniform.
所有的學生都必須穿著校服。
All the people you invited are coming.
你邀請的客人都來了。
All the angles of a triangle are 180°.
三角形所有內角的和是 180 度。
3.all＋of＋the＋名詞的複數形
以此種形式使用時，「all」是指稱多個的代名詞。
All of the apples in the supermarket were sold out.
超市裡的蘋果都賣完了。
這是個重點！我們也可以說「all」來指稱所有的不可數名詞。在下面的情況，「all」是被視為單數。

這是指一件事的「事件整體」或「整件事情」。 「Whole」的焦點在於「未分割」。 用法為「whole＋單數形」。
