・When a fire occurs, the information is sent to a fire station immediately. The most important point of fire fighting is how quickly they get to the fire scene. (一發生火災,消防局就會立刻收到通知。因為救火最重要的關鍵就在於消防員多快抵達現場。)
・In the case of the Taiwanese fire station, they go into action in two minutes from the 119 call. Telephone number 119 is an emergency number for fire and emergency medical services. (在台灣,消防員接到報案電話後的兩分鐘內就要出隊。119專線是一支緊急報案電話,專門處理火警及緊急醫療情況。)
・When there is no fire or disaster, firefighters are constantly repeating checks and maintenance to ensure that fire engines and ambulances work properly in these situations.
・One example of duty hours for firefighters is one 24-hour work shift every 3 days, and sometimes there are, at the most, 4 to 5 times when they are dispatched to fires or an accident scene per day. Sometimes, they are too busy to take time out for lunch. (關於消防員的值勤時間,有些人是每三天就會輪到一次24小時的全日班,另外,每天最多可能會需要出任務四到五次,包含火警或其他緊急事故的處理。因此有時候他們會忙到連休息吃個午餐的時間都沒有。)
3.高級
・The work firefighters do can be divided into five major categories: “Fire extinguishing”, “Rescue”, “First aid”, “Disaster prevention”, and “Precaution”. They not only do fire fighting at the fire scene, but they also conduct educational activities to prevent the fire in advance, and check facilities for preventing fires in the building, etc. These are parts of their important job.
・The work of a firefighter is usually very tough, since they work in a severe environment and it’s essential to have physical strength that can withstand it. Besides, it’s also important to be able to have cool judgment. They need to be calm even if they face a severe situation in which everyone is likely to panic and lose themselves. This is not only for stopping disasters quickly, but also for reassuring citizens in an unprecedented situation.
