This soup is helping to tackle loneliness among the elderly.

“We’re making a tomato lentil spinach soup. People are right now cutting the tomatoes, little bit of garlic, some spinach.”

Young volunteers bring the ingredients to community centres and retirement homes.

年輕志願者把做湯的食材帶到社區中心和退休人士公寓。

Then everyone gets involved in cooking and eating.

“In the Netherlands, grandmas are particularly famous for soups. Like, a lot of grandmas have their own recipe from generation and generation.”

The young and old mingle while cooking and eating.

“Well, the old people are often just moaning about their ailments. And young people are fun, they still go out, and then you hear gossip – and I like that.”

“A lot of the digital age is sometimes shallow, I think. That doesn’t matter to the elderly people that are here. And they also give very good advice. I’ve had some very good love advice from them. So, that was great.”

“我覺得數字時代的很多東西有時都很膚淺。但這對於這裡的老年人來說並不重要。老年人還能給我們年輕人一些好的人生建議。我就得到瞭一些很好的戀愛方面的建議。非常有用。”

The organisers now sell the soup in shops across the Netherlands. Half the profits are going towards tackling loneliness.
