What is ‘AI washing’, and why is it a problem?
“洗AI” 是什麼意思?它會造成哪些問題?
Companies are constantly fighting for business and investment, and adding artificial intelligence (AI) can help give them an edge.
公司總是在為瞭獲得更多業務和投資而相互競爭,而使用人工智能(AI)能幫助它們獲得優勢。
But when companies exaggerate their AI capabilities to stand out – that’s called ‘AI washing’.
但如果有時某些公司通過吹噓對人工智能的運用能力來讓自己脫穎而出,我們就可以把這種行為叫做 “洗AI”。
Some claim to use AI when they don’t, or say their AI tools are more effective than they really are.
有些並不使用人工智能的公司宣稱自己使用人工智能,或者誇大它們使用的人工智能工具的能力。
Others just bolt on chatbots to existing products, or use humans to do tasks that they say were done by AI.
還有些公司隻是在現有的產品上額外添加一個對話機器人,或者用人工完成那些它們宣稱是由人工智能完成的任務。
It’s similar to ‘green washing’ – when firms claim they’re doing more to protect the planet than they really are.
“洗AI” 的做法和 “洗綠” 類似——“洗綠” 是指 “某些公司誇大自己為保護地球環境所做出的努力”。
This problem isn’t new.

And since everyone’s got different ideas about what AI can do, experts say it’s easier for companies’ misleading claims to go unnoticed.

Many countries have strict rules and tough penalties for those who aren’t telling the truth when advertising. If people don’t trust what companies say, it can affect their reputation and investor confidence.
許多國傢都有嚴格的規定和嚴厲的處罰措施,用於針對在廣告語中做假的企業。如果人們不再相信某些公司說的話,這就會影響這些公司的商譽和投資者信心。
But some experts believe overuse of the term ‘AI’ means, it may lose meaning over time. It could become a bit like saying ‘we’re on the internet’.
但一些專傢認為,過度使用 “AI” 這個詞會讓它逐漸失去原本的意義。這可能會變得像是在說 “我們在用互聯網”。
